Letter F Storytime

Scott Bahlmann

Opening: Shake my Sillies out – Raffi

Book: Firehouse – Mark Teague

Firehouse-book-cover2

(A fun bright book, and what kid doesn't love firetrucks!)

Activity: Why the Frog has Big Eyes
from the book by Betsy Franco
(full version here)

frog

(A fun way to tell the story with paper 'puppets'. Simple and engaging.)

Frog used to have small eyes, and practiced sitting without blinking. He was sure he could win any staring contest, and did until he tried to outstare fish. His eyes got bigger and bigger, and only after losing did he learn that fish don't blink. He still has large eyes to this day, but never bragged again.

Book: The Fleas Sneeze – Lynn Downey

the flea's sneeze

(A fun story, always a hit!)

Activity: Fly is on my nose - Traditional

 Bzzzzzzzzzzzz
A fly is on my nose, a fly is on my nose.
Hi-ho, just watch me blow the fly right off my nose!
Whoooo. Bzzzzzzzzzz

(The fly lands on a new body part, and you continue the song.)

(This was lots of fun, we used our fingers as the fly, and the kids were great at giving suggestions for where the fly might land next.)

Book: Old Black Fly – Jim Aylesworth

7726495

(Then we read about this nasty fly, with a lovely fun ending.)

Activity: 5 Little Fish

2013-04-02_09-15-15_450

(One of the little boys wasn't very happy about the green fish being eaten, but I think it's good to let the kids be exposed to that. Everyone else loved it!)

Five little fish were swimming in the sea, teasing Mr. Shark,
"You can't catch me! You can't catch me!"
Along came Mr. Shark, swimming very slowly,
and chomped that fish right out of the sea!

(Count down remaining fish)

Book: Dancing Feet – Lindsey Craig

Activity: Dancing with Streamers

(Then we used our Feet to dance!)
