Book Babies 1.2

Our handouts are printed on both sides of a normal sheet of paper, folded in half to form a brochure of sorts. This go-round I’ve used a high-contrast image (adapted from photographs) on our covers. I also have an image by each rhyme, which creates a nice talking point for children too young to read. …and because I’m a very visual person.

We open each program with Baby Hop, from the CD Diaper Gym.

Then we read the first of two books, which alternate depending on what is available. See my Book Babies/Lapsit Titles page for suggestions.

Here Goes a Turtle

Here goes a turtle up the hill-
Creep, creep, creep, creep. (creep fingers up arm)
Here goes a rabbit up the hill-
Boing, boing, boing, boing! (bounce fingers up arm)
Here goes an elephant up the hill-
Tromp, tromp, tromp, tromp. (move flat palm up arm)
Here goes a snake up the hill-
Slither, slither, slither, slither. (drag a finger up arm)
Here comes a rock down the hill-
Boom, boom, boom, boom, (bounce baby in lap, then tip over for 'Crash!')
CRASH!

5 Hungry Ants

5 hungry ants, marching in a line,
came upon a picnic where they could dine.
They marched into the salad,
they marched into the cake,
they marched into the pepper….
Uh oh, what a mistake!
AHHHH-CHOOO!

4 hungry ants….etc….

I Like Wiggling from Animal Tower

I like wiggling fingers, I like wiggling those
I like wiggling fingers, this is how it goes.

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands,

(Continue with other emotions. We use happy (clap), sad (cry), mad (stomp), scared (shiver and shake), and sleepy (take a nap).

Itsy Bitsy Spider from 118 Songs Kids Love

The itsy-bitsy spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy-bitsy spider went up the spout again!

Goodnight to the Animals
Tune: roughly, Three Little Fishes

In the farmyard at the end of the day,
All the animals politely say,
“Thank you for my food today.”
The cow says “Moo.”

(Continue with other animals, usually five.)

...Then the barn is locked up tight.
And the farmer quietly says, “Goodnight.”
