Celebrate Storytime

Scott Bahlmann

Opening: Shake My Sillies Out – Raffi

Book: Dinosaur Zoom – Penny Dale

dinosaurzoomdale

(A nice surprise for me, really nice illustrations and just the right amount of text. The kids quite liked it.)

Activity: Dragon’s Birthday

A dragon invites his friends to have some of his birthday cake, and they all wonder how he blows out the candles with his dragon breath. But dragons blow their candles on!

(A fun story for the kids, but mostly they like blowing out the candles with me at the end.)

Book: I am Invited to a Party – Mo Willems

iaminvitedtoapartywillems

(Elephant and Piggie are always a great addition.)

Activity: Ring Those Party Bells
tune:She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain

storytimebells

(A great opportunity to make noise, and follow directions!)

(Loudly)
We will ring those Party bells so loud and clear.
We will ring those Party bells so loud and clear.
We will hear the dingle, dingle
When they jingle, jingle, jingle.
Yes, we'll ring those Party bells so loud and clear.

(Softly) We will ring those Party bells so quietly...

(loud and deliberate) We will ring those Party bells so fast and loud...

...'round and 'round

...up and down

Book: The Fantastic Mr. Wani – Kanako Usui

thefantasticmrwaniusui

(This was quite cute, and the kids were laughing out loud at Mr Wani's mishaps.)

Activity: Ice Cream Cone

Book: Magic Box – Katie Cleminson

magicboxcleminson

(A very bright, simple book. I've used it a number of times, and it's always engaging.)

Activity: Instruments

(We finished by having our own little party with instruments.)
