Christmas Storytime
Scott Bahlmann
Opening: Shake My Sillies Out
Book: Merry Christmas, Big Hungry Bear! – Don and Audrey Wood
(I typically take issue with authors overusing a popular character, but this was a lovely story that suited the original very well.)
Activity: Christmas Cheer
tune: We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Let’s all do a little clapping, let’s all do a little clapping,
Let’s all do a little clapping, and spread Christmas cheer!
(continue with stomping, jumping, spinning, etc.)
(a very nice 'get up and move' activity, though a bit of a stretch) -.o
Book: Rock-a-Bye Christmas – Matt Novak
(An adorable book, with the only fault being the slightly small size. Still clearly conveys the action and the kids all liked it.)
Activity: Reindeer Pokey
You put your right hooves in, you put your right hooves out,
You put your right hooves in and you shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer pokey and you turn yourself about.
That's what it's all about!
(continue with left hooves, antlers, tail, shiny nose, whole self)
(This was just okay for me. The kids had fun but I wish I'd had something better.)
Book: I’m Not Santa – Jonathan Allen
(So adorable, and the kids love it.)
Activity: A Star for My Little Tree
tune: 12 Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a star for the top of my tree.
...continue with two strings of lights, three silver bells, four candy canes, five red globes.
(We have the kids help count the items as we put them up, the sing along. Another 'only okay' thing for me.)
Book: Have You Been Naughty or Nice? – Ethan Long
(A great character that the kids are thrilled by.)
Activity: Bubbles
(Bubbles as snow!)
