Pets Storytime
Scott Bahlmann
The kids had fun identifying the animals. We talked about the toy dog, and could you have a lion as a pet? They said yes! (We changed our minds during ‘Dear Zoo’)
This is our system-wide opener. Starting with the same song lets the kids know we’re ready to start, and builds their confidence for participation.
So fun! With a cat, dog, and Bongo too, this ticks the most common pet boxes. A great surprise ending to chat with the kids about, and some Spanish phrases too!
I pass out cards before this song, the kids bring theirs up when the picture shows, and then we sing that verse. Works great at outreaches!
This cute dog thinks they’re helping so much, but each situation is a bit of a mess. The kids can join in on the numerous Noooo!’s
Let see if we can be good pets! A fun free form action game. The dog sits, ‘speaks’ and rolls over. For fish we hold our breath. The horse runs a loop and jumps. The bird flaps it’s wings, and the cat washes it’s face and stretches before a nap.
Repetition and beautiful illustrations make this a great storytime book.
Easy to stash some puppets in a box and act this one out. I used a gorilla, squirrel, lion and rabbit for this round.
Not the best pet fit, but the cat was fun to track through the pages. I thought I could get the attendees to join in singing on the verse, but no luck.
The pup is hidden behind the animals on the following slides. In the program this is a great opportunity for preschool readiness, encouraging kids to raise hands and take turns, and speaking in front of a group.
