Love You Storytime
Scott Bahlmann
Kind of a challenging thee to find visual talking points for, but it turned out pretty engaging. One of the kids names every vegetable in the garden (they had to ask about the onion and potato).
This is our system-wide opener. Starting with the same song lets the kids know we’re ready to start, and builds their confidence.
I maybe should have carried over the idea of singing with the chorus from last week, one of the mom’s was humming this song afterwards. The context of cleaning and building a park didn’t quite convey, just okay as a storytime read.
Two little lovebirds sitting on a hill,
one named Jack and one named Jill.
Fly away Jack! Fly away Jill!
Come back Jack! Come back Jill!
Continue with:
grass, slow and fast
snow, high and low
cloud, quiet and loud
heart, burp and fart
(got a request to repeat the last one)
I lot of fun scenarios, the kids can identify with loving a lot of the spreads in this book, and we shared the pancake page for everyone to have a taste, they love that picture best!
Time to wiggle! We added the ASL sign for ‘heart’ by tapping our chest with the bent middle finger.
The illustrations really carry this story, and a wonderful message about choosing to share or be selfish. Great storytime book!
I rubber-banded a paintbrush to one of our puppets, and she ‘painted’ each shape. A fun way to practice shape identification, and parent tip that recognizing shapes is the prelude to recognizing letter and the introduction to math skills.
A little small for a storytime crowd, but lovely pictures and a wide spread of love represented.
